FAQ’s

Frequently asked questions

GCM is a commonly used term meaning Goss Combined Mass of a vehicle. your GCM dictates what the total mass of a vehicle can be. It is also very important when considering GCM or GVM vehicle upgrades to take into consideration what each brand offers in axle load capacity and if it allows for proper practical loading.

Yes, GVM upgrades are legal when they are completed pre or post registration if they are engineered under an SSM approval with all required engineering data. It is important to *note* that once you have a GVM upgraded completed by law you must keep the approved parts and within the spec of which it was engineered at.

Yes, JMACX now have multiple GVM/GCM upgraded readily available for the 70 series 1GD 4 cylinder ranging from 3900kg-4495kg.

Federal approval can only be completed under an SSM approval on brand new vehicles that have not yet been registered, when completed via SSM pre-registration the vehicle is approved VIA the public ROVER system under a VTA approval and when the vehicle is first registered it is considered a non-modified/factory vehicle. This means the vehicle is not considered modified even if it has a large tyre, lift, & GVM optioned via SSM, this intern means as long as the vehicle remains in its original spec which it was completed by the SSM holder the vehicle does not require modification approval by the state and if you move or sell the vehicle interstate it is not required to be re-engineered for the new state as the vehicle is considered factory.

State approval is applicable to vehicles that have already been registered, in this scenario the limitations on things such as lift height, tyre size and GCM are dictated by the individual states rules and how much they allow these areas to be increased by. some states have individual ruling that will not except any amount of engineering data to allow increase outside of the limitation they have dictated. It is very important when considering GVM upgrades on your registered vehicle that you contact and talk to a local installation facility and confirm what your limitations are.

We offer GVM upgrades for a wide range of vehicles like 70 series landcruiser, 200 series landcruiser, 300 series landcruiser, 250 prado, next gen Ranger,INEOS Grenadier/Quatermaster & Ram 1500/2500

While upgrading your vehicles differential is common to accommodate heavier vehicle loads, more vehicle power or correcting an offset vehicle track like a 70 series it is important to keep in mind no matter what upgraded axle you put in a vehicle what your vehicle’s axles capacity can actually be at legally are determined by your vehicles GVM details whether that be factory specs or from a GVM upgrade by a SSM holder. This means even if you put an upgraded rear diff with a load rating of 2850kg but your GVM states a maximum capacity of 2500kg your vehicles axle weight must remain at 2500kg as that is what the entire vehicle was tested and approved at.
